Bookcase No.1 is a perfect example of furniture as functional art. Not only does this piece provide ample storage & display space, but it will also act as a classic, bold accent in your home. A true Dust classic, Bookcase No.1 is a perfect example of Vincent Leman's abstract-traditional design style. The moldings, feet and arched opening are all traditional furniture design elements that Vincent has referenced and abstracted to create a piece that is both familiar and unusual. The graceful curves add movement and flow to the piece while the stepped top adds an interesting display space as well as a visual point of contrast. And of course as functional art, this piece features plenty of shelf space to display your favorite objects.Vincent made the first version of this piece in his early 20's around 2003 at Leman Cabinets in Francesville, Indiana. The early prototype version was redesigned and one of the first pieces introduced to the Dust line by Jessie & Vincent together in 2005. At the time, Vincent and Jessie were still dating and Vincent was working out of his basement studio in Chelsea, Michigan. In 2012, Vincent redesigned Bookcase No.1 again to reflect his developing sense of proportion and style. The newly released piece was made notably larger and its form refined. The result is a truly stunning bookcase with which will stand as a bold accent in your home and provide ample shelving space.Bookcase No.1, like all pieces of Dust Furniture, is made to order and built in the Dust studio in Valparaiso, Indiana. The bookcase may be ordered in one of the colors shown or select 'Choose your own color' and leave a note in the checkout area.
